This
gallery consists of images taken along Route 542, the Mt. Baker
Highway, on August 5th and 6th of 2003. The final portion of
the highway from the Heather Meadows Visitor Center to Artist's
Point was still closed due to snow, and weather conditions were
not suitable for the typical images of Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan.
The view of Mt. Shuksan, partially enshrouded in clouds was taken
on August 5. On August 6th since the road was to open the following
day, I decided to walk up the road to Artist's Point. Soon engulfed
in clouds, I occasionally ventured onto the adjacent Wild Goose
Trail and a view hundred feet down the Lake Ann Trail. Due to
the weather, the best photo opportunities presenting themselves
were the wildflowers. Since the air was a dead calm, the long
exposures needed with Velvia 50 under poor lighting were possible.
After lunching in the middle of the huge, empty parking lot surrounded
by snow drifts at Artist's Point, I returned to Heather Meadows
and grabbed one sunlit shot just before it started pouring rain! |
