Canyonlands National Park
lies in central Utah surrounding the confluence of the Colorado
and the Green Rivers. The three districts of the park separated
by the confluence of the rivers are Island in the Sky to the
north, Needles to the southeast, and Maze to the southwest. In
addition, there is an isolated unit to the west containing Horseshoe
Canyon, site of what is arguably the best petroglyph panel in
the Southwest.
The images appearing here
were taken in the more accessible Needles and Island in the Sky
districts. The Island in the Sky images were taken at points
less than one mile from the network of paved roads. The Needles
images were taken in a hike to Chesler Park from the end of a
narrow gravel road.
